You'd have to look at the process monitor to se if wuauclt is running, then google for the windows update logfile that will give you feedback. Timmy: Are you sure that you have the latest required updates installed? They require a new Windows Installer to get updates, you get this via the Windows Update website at first launch. For the time being am trying to patch these Windows after the recent update release for Windows Servers and XP. By recent one did you mean MS? If there are prerequisites you'll get something similar to "not applicable". In the catalog under version, it says "not applicable". Does this mean there are prerequisites? You can simply try installing it.
A catch is those files are in use, so you'll have to do some DOS prompt type commands to make it so you can update those files. What you will need:. Fixing Windows Update! With the link downloaded, run it but don't go through the install.
A screen will come up that shows what directory the files are expanding into - note that directory name or at least the first characters of it as you'll see here:.
