ProTip: Don't blindly blow up bubbles. The more bubbles bouncing on-screen, the harder it is to dodge. Focus on destroying one completely, and then attack the next. In the Panic Mode, you face 99 levels of nonstop popping action. In each level, you've got to pop bubbles until your Pop Meter is full. Only then can you move on to the next level. In both modes, your Buster Brother can run left and right, climb up and down ladders, jump off platforms, and fire his gun.
Fortunately for Super Bro', power-ups and other helpful items abound. Sometimes when bubbles burst or highlighted platforms are blown up, power-ups appear. In Tour mode, these include the Double Harpoon Gun, a Grappling Hook , a Clock freezes bubbles for a set amount of time , Dynamite blows all bubbles to their smallest size , and more.
The Panic Mode features different, but equally helpful, power-ups. Fans of Bubble Bobble and similar titles will find Buster Brothers has the same addictive quality. Pumped up bit graphics, smooth tunes, and the game's two different modes combine with adjustable challenge settings to create a well-rounded package.
If you're looking for a relaxing game that requires little brainpower, you just might want to bust a move with Super Buster Brothers. You are the Super Buster Brother and it's up to you to save the planet from the onslaught of killer bubbles. The object of the game is very simple, pop all of the bubbles on the screen without getting hit. The bubbles break into smaller bubbles and are hard to hit! There are two ways to play this game. The Tour mode lets you go around the globe popping bubbles while overcoming different structures.
Panic mode is a little different. As you pop the bubbles, a bar at the bottom of the screen fills and you advance to the next level. You can pick up various weapons along the way that improve your bubble popping capabilities! There might be a level that you just can't get past and you don't know what to do. Never fear, because we at GameFabrique have come upon a level select code that will let you start from any level in the game!
This is how to do it. You will now see a screen that says "Select Game" at the top. Once you do this, a number will appear in the middle of the screen. Collection is a collaboration of all three Buster Bros. The games are all fairly similar, but have the same objective -- pop the bubbles. The three games combine to give you levels of bubble-popping fun that allows two-player simultaneous play.
Everything from the arcade originals has been preserved, so get ready for some late nights. If you never made it to the arcades or just plain don't remember the Buster Bros. It may sound a bit complex at first but, oh well, here goes.
The object is That's it. Pop the big bubble and it splits into two smaller bubbles. Pop the smaller bubble and it pops into two even smaller bubbles. Pop these and move on to the next level. If one of the bubbles happens to touch you, start the level over. Throw in a time clock that makes you complete the round before it expires, and that about describes the object of the game. I am not going to individually review each of the three games on the disc since they are very similar, with the differences coming in the forms of different enemies and power-ups.
So everything I say will hold true to all three games unless noted otherwise. To help you in your bubble-bustin' adventures, some of the bubbles will drop various power-ups when they are popped. The power-ups depend on which game you are playing but range from different types of weapons to shoot the bubbles, time extensions, freeze clocks that stop the bubbles from moving for a short period of time, and dynamite that will pop the bubbles down one level.
There is a best time to use each of the power-ups, and if you are not careful, you will lose a more powerful weapon by stepping on a weaker one. For example, if you have the machine gun my personal favorite and you step on a power wire, your weapon changes to the power wire. This forces you to have to watch both the bubbles in the air and the power-ups on the ground. Believe me, it is challenging. The arcade original graphics have been preserved and actually still work great.
This is not a game that requires 3D sprites and polygons to be fun. The graphics are bright, cheery and a perfect fit. I think the best compliment I can give them is that even if these were new games, not arcade classics, the graphics would still be good.
I guess the designers of the originals need to be commended for doing a good job back then. Collection is good fun for the whole family. You won't find any technological breakthroughs here, but the game is just fun to play. Tip: Saving games on an emulator functions a little differently. The integrated save system will not save your progress.
